The city's main artery is the Avenida Presidente Vargas, starting at the waterfront and ending in a pleasant palm-lined avenue. There are plenty of sights to see along the street, so it's a great place to start exploring. In the evening, jazz or samba options abound.
Days 2-3
Parati
Originally settled in 1531, and once a booming port town famous for its sugar cane liquor, Parati was all but forgotten after the abolition of slavery. Today it is a national monument and its cobblestone, pedestrian-only streets are a romantic place for a stroll. The water of the Bay of Parati is always just right for swimming and the surrounding national parks are brimming with wildlife, waterfalls and trails. Explore the beautiful bay and its islands on a boat trip.
Days 4-6
Iguazu Falls
The massive, misty falls of Iguazu are sure to take your breath away. Panoramic views abound from the Brazilian side, while a stroll along the Argentinean boardwalks offers a closer view of the thundering waters. Uncover the history of this remarkable sight - both its legends and its geology.
The districts of Buenos Aires all have distinct character and style. San Telmo is popular for its artists and weekend markets; La Boca, settled by waves of immigrants, is known for its brightly painted buildings and murals of famous footballers. The centre is the historic heart, with churches, cathedrals and old buildings. Throughout the different areas, there is a sense of pride from local residents, who love their city intensely.
